Fae are generally divided into three very broad political affiliations. These affiliations originate from Celtic culture; the Celtic-Germanic culture is the most dominant in the fae world, and as such, demand allegiance to one or the other of the courts at risk of being labelled a troublemaker.
The Seelie Court
(Court of Light, Summer Court, White Court, ) Affiliated with renewal, growth, order, conformity and light, the Seelie Court is led by Queen Brigid. Species that are commonly associated with the Seelie Court are elves (ljosalfar), dryads, brownies, gnomes, sprites, leprechauns ,and selkies.
The Unseelie Court
(Court of Night, Winter Court, Black Court) Affiliated with decay, fading, death, chaos, individuality and impulsivity, the Unseelie Court is led by the Erlkonig (also known as the Horned Lord). Species that are commonly associated with the Seelie Court are banshees, dwarves (dokkalfar), huldra, will o’wisps, rusalki, harpies ,and kelpies.
